Questions for your first call
Use these questions to understand how a solicitor could help and what the work would involve.
Start with the help you need
- Does your team regularly help with situations like mine?
- Who would do the work and keep me updated?
- What would happen next if I asked you to help?
Understand the costs
- Can you give me a written quote showing what is included, VAT and any other charges?
- What could change the cost, and will you check with me before doing extra work?
Before the conversation
- Be ready to explain briefly what you need help with. Have any dates you’ve been given to hand.
- Ask which documents the solicitor needs before sending them, and how to send them securely.
- Ask each solicitor firm the same questions so you can compare their answers.
You don’t need to explain everything perfectly. Start with what you need help with and let the solicitor guide the conversation.
