Information from the SRA
Our main source is the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). We use its firm information to show names, registration numbers, offices, contact details, legal services and relevant dates.
Firms provide much of this information to the SRA. For the current official record, including conditions on a firm’s authorisation and published regulatory decisions, use the SRA Register.
Updated daily
We update the directory each day. The date shown on a listing tells you when we last received the SRA information used for it.
A recent update does not mean we have spoken to the firm or checked its premises. Before you visit, send documents or make a payment, confirm the details using a contact you have checked independently.
Which firms are included?
We list firms shown by the SRA as currently authorised, with at least one UK office we can display. Where a firm has conditions on its authorisation, its profile highlights this and links to the official record.
A firm may have several offices or trade under more than one name. Its profile shows those details together to help you recognise who you’re contacting.
If a detail is missing, we say so. You can ask the firm for information that is not listed here.
Check services with the office
The legal services on a profile are reported for the firm as a whole. Different offices and people within that firm may handle different types of work.
Ask the office whether it regularly helps with situations like yours, who would do the work and whether it can take on a new client.
Names, addresses and dates
We tidy the way names and addresses are displayed so they are easier to read. If the SRA information gives conflicting details for an office, the listing asks you to confirm them.
A firm’s history may include SRA authorisation dates, previous names and changes we have recorded. The date beside a listing change is when we first saw it; the change itself may have happened earlier.
Search results and saved firms
Search results reflect the location, service, name or registration number you enter. Closest matches come first, with equally close matches ordered A to Z. Firms cannot pay for a higher place.
Saving and comparing firms can help you narrow your options. Speak with the firms about their experience, availability and fees before deciding.
Scotland and Northern Ireland
The SRA regulates solicitors and law firms in England and Wales. Some of these firms have offices in Scotland or Northern Ireland, but our listings do not cover all solicitors in either place.
